Earth Mother is a large marble impressionistic sculpture carved to evoke a sense of our relationship with our environment. The shape was inspired by one of our Flatirons. The stone was taken from the Colorado Yule Quarry, near Aspen, which also provided the marble for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Lincoln Memorial. It is streaked with beautiful green and gold marbling, from copper and iron minerals in the metamorphosis of millions of sea creature skeletons from which the stone was formed by heat and pressure deep within the Earth.
This 6 ft. tall marble statue was purchased by Roche Colorado and gifted to the new Boulder Community Hospital Foothill Campus for a permanent installation in the courtyard adjacent to the fountain.
